Morals are something that we as human beings base many decisions on every single day and night. It is what most people believe sets apart the human race from the rest of the animal kingdom.

However, as this topic about morals and what they actually are gets circulated among the many philosophers of the world, whether it be in the backyard around a campfire with your friends, or a topic on a much heated political debate, we begin to learn that many people have different views on what morals actually are. People usually fall into two separate categories, and choosing a side may be one of the determining factors of oneís life.

Universal absolutes in terms of morals is one of the many mysteries of the world. You either believe one of two things:

A) There is absolutely a wrong choice, and absolutely a right choice
B) Everything is relative to something else, and each choice we make is situational

Side A

Many religions try to define what is actually right and wrong. For Christians the Bible is the daily guide to life, and from it people are given the tools they need to understand what is right and what is wrong. For Muslims it is the Quran, and for Jews it is the Torah.

Many believe that an identified set of morals is proof for God – but there is just one problem: Only one group of people can be absolutely right. In an absolute world there is truly only one right belief. This one right belief system is ultimately what most are struggling to obtain. A road that is never straying, never winding, always straight forward, and always righteous.

One of the strongest arguments for this side is imposed by the question “If there is absolutely no truth and no clear cut definition of right or wrong, and each man and woman is to decide for his or herself what is right and wrong – then who is anybody to tell anybody what they are doing is wrong?

Side B

Our morals are made up of things far more complicated than an absolute right and wrong. To preserve the human race, with the help of society, laws, family, and friends, we determine what is right and wrong based on feelings and situational analysis. Some people would say that there is no true reality, only perceptions and opinions.

People can talk about what is right and what is wrong all day long and not come up with an answer. At the end of the day it is up for the person to decide, for everybody on this planet is unique and our own morals and beliefs are what make us different. And let’s face, if everybody on this planet believed the very same thing, then this world would be a very boring place.

Conclusion

There must be some things in this world that are absolute. If there weren’t than how could science exist? Without absolutes, things like gravity and the speed of light would not be measurable.

If things in science are absolute and science is just the study of the world around us, then wouldn’t the study of our morals just be search for God? Ultimately the two are the same and it is up to us to either believe that absolutes exist or not. Only your heart can have the answer, as a mind will always find a way to tell you what your heart really wants.

Crushing impossible is getting old because we all know it almost never actually exists.  It’s just another barrier — another way of copping out and being comfortable with doing nothing and settling for sucking.  It’s disgusting, gatekeeper excrement, and it deserves a 10-foot tall middle finger.

This is the response to those very citizens expressing concern over the city of Cedar Falls, IA having keys to their private property in case of emergency.  In this case, 6 people voted to strip the constitutional right to privacy of 15,000 in the name of “safety.”  The fact that this sort of idea not only surfaced but was deemed a good policy is the major cause for concern.  The vote itself is smug and condescending when hitched to a lecture about who’s the boss.

Dutiful citizens who just really want to be left alone are forced to drag ass down to a lame council meeting and listen to arrogant windbags talk about security.  Up goes a website, out comes the donations and petitions and another fray ensues.  How many can we endure when the attack comes from every possible angle?

Of course, that’s the whole idea when you’re fighting a war.  Take the easy ground inch by inch and hold out.  Gobble up space while the enemy is asleep and make him pay dearly for each token victory.
